I have battled mental illness for so long and have not always maintained positive self-talk or helpful self-care. There are times, I have tried to ignore the disease and just get by. This has proven to be an unhealthy way to live and cope with bipolar, specifically. I have allowed negativity in and it has damaged my outlook on myself. My confidence has been very low at times and it this has caused me to ponder upon my life and how to get through in a healthy way. Confidence is key in confronting any challenge, mentally and otherwise.
How to become more confident;
Make lists of your achievements and things in your life that you are proud of. This may take some time and patience because it requires admission of successes.
Acknowledge your personal strengths and talents. Giving yourself credit for these very personal gifts can give way to a positive start in noticing how great a person you really are.
Set realistic goals for yourself. Goals are crucial in moving forward and progressing.
Practice positive self-talk. A short recital of “I am good enough, I can do this” can help boost your moral and promote positivity in your day.
Make time for your hobbies and try out new things to find out what you are passionate about. These can be seemingly small things but are important in creating confidence but also distracting your mind when needed.
Talk to a counselor or medical health professional to learn self-management strategies that can help build confidence and self-esteem
A confident person
Does what they believe is right. Stand up for yourself as well.
Is willing to take risks. Take a risk in opening up to others when you need support or just to talk. Take a risk and go out this weekend with family and friends.
Admits their mistakes and learns from them. Do not focus or get dragged down from them though. Always allow for mistakes, but then move on.
Is able to accept a compliment. Saying thank you is therapeutic.
Is optimistic. This comes in time and can take practice.
Hope
Hope for emotional pain of a hundred kinds to ease up and stop.
We can hope, we must hope even when facing the most insurmountable odds.
We all need to believe that what we desire can someday, someway, somehow be ours.
Building confidence has been so important to me. When I am confident, I am able to accomplish so much. I make better decisions and cope better than I usually do when down and lack positive self-talk and self-care. Having a positive outlook in life can actually bring better things our way. Achieving a goal or getting a new job or making a new friend can come to pass more easily when confident and hopeful. I rely on hope to get me through. I am always hoping for better. To better my circumstances and uplift my spirits to eventually achieve the end goal – mental peace!
